Here at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, we cherish sharing and generosity as core values in Pueblo culture. That’s why we’re participating in #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
This global day of donations signals the beginning of the giving season for charities and non-profits worldwide, and provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals and organizations to show their support for institutions that do good work in their communities.
“As Pueblo people, in times of scarcity we help one other, and in times of abundance we share with others,” says Travis Suazo (Laguna, Acoma, and Taos Pueblo), our Cultural & Community Engagement Officer. “During this season of giving, we’re reaching out to the valued supporters who make the IPCC’s work possible and asking them to exemplify these Pueblo core values with us.”
Donations made throughout the #GivingTuesday campaign in November and December will support a variety of cultural activities in the coming year. Plans for 2017 include the continuation of annual traditions for children, like Youth Summer Day Camp and the Native American Student Art Show, as well as regular opportunities for the public to engage with Pueblo culture, including the monthly Pueblo Book Club and the quarterly View into the Collection.
The museum team is also working to produce several new special exhibitions to expand upon the museum’s 40th anniversary renovation in 2016. Two such exhibits slated to open in April 2017 are “Pueblo People & the Modern Environment” and “Art Through Struggle: Jason Garcia.”
“The generous support of our community allows us to address timely issues in Pueblo life with exhibitions and programs that touch on contemporary issues year by year,” says Museum Director Monique Fragua (Jemez Pueblo). “Each year we strive to serve as a relevant resource to the people of New Mexico and beyond, a goal we can only accomplish through the support of donors.”
The IPCC’s #GivingTuesday fundraising campaign officially launches on Tuesday, November 29, and will continue on social media and at the Center through the end of December. But gifts of any amount are welcome at any time—so don't delay, give today!
