Fire, Stones, & the Brilliance of Love: A Conversation with Female Jewelers

February 11, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Event Navigation

A conversation with Native American female jewelers

Explore the world of Native jewelry from the perspective of several skilled women who are making their mark as metalsmiths. Liz Wallace (Maidu/Washoe/Navajo), Althea Cajero (Santo Domingo/Acoma), and Glenda Loretto (Jemez). From innovations like ceramic coating and bronze to pearls and diamonds, these remarkable artists are pushing boundaries in an environment that is often strictly traditional. How have they dealt with these pressures as well as the demanding physicality of forging metal into works of art? Come hear their thoughts on changing the Native jewelry industry from the inside.
