The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center presents “Hidden Stories” an installation of artwork by Deborah A. Jojola (Isleta/Jemez) The exhibit, a Graduate Honor Thesis project for Jojola’s Masters of Fine Art degree at the University of New Mexico, will include a wide variety of print making techniques including lithography, relief lino-cuts, and a collage mosaic of her prints. Her exhibit will feature her clay work and other materials. Jojola’s prints depict the story of her culture, family and personal experiences. Jojola said,” Art has been my tool to implement the development, communication and stability in my life, family and culture. It is the past, present and future interaction and support for our Native communities.” Amy Johnson, curator at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center said, “We decided this would be a great opportunity for us and Deborah to showcase an exhibit of contemporary Pueblo art.” Jojola is a graduate student in the Department of Art and Art History at UNM and her art work encompasses printmaking, painting, and clay work. She currently teaches several printmaking classes at UNM, and has taught workshops in various art forms. She has also been an artist instructor at the Georgia O’Keefe Museum in Santa Fe. An opening reception is planned on April 11 from 12 noon to 2 pm followed by a talk by the artist from 3 pm to 4 pm. Contact: Amy Johnson ajohnson@indianpueblo.org 505-724-3546 |
